27-Aug-2009 - Charter Wire Starts 100% Hydrogen Annealing At New Facility
RAD-CON, Inc. has announced that a 100% hydrogen annealing furnace system, commissioned for Charter Wire’s new manufacturing facility in Menomonee Valley, Wisconsin, is now operational.
Last year, when Charter Wire, a division of Charter Manufacturing Company (Milwaukee, WI), decided to move its manufacturing facility to a new location, they called on RAD-CON, Inc. to replace the company’s batch annealing capacity with 100% hydrogen annealing, the latest technology available.
Now, with full production set for August, the new furnace system is the first production unit operating in the new facility, allowing Charter to take advantage of the higher quality hydrogen annealing process.
During the commissioning of the equipment, Charter’ Project Manager, Greg Volovsek, stated, “RAD-CON’s portion of the project has gone very well.”
Charter, a leading supplier of shaped steel bar and wire products, will utilize the RAD-CON annealing system primarily for recrystallize annealing of low-carbon drawn wire. The new system also gives Charter the capability to anneal alloy steels for specialty applications.
The bell-type furnace has RAD-CON’s FlexLoad™ plenum to allow a variety of coil packages to be loaded. The system includes a rapid hydrogen cooling spray-water feature for superior product brightness, and RAD-CON’s patented AC/APEx™ Atmosphere Control System for regulation of heating rates and atmosphere flows according to wire quality requirements. This system also includes RAD-CON’s Super-High Convection (H2SHC™) technology for superior atmosphere circulation resulting in uniform material properties with low utility costs.
RAD-CON, Inc. designs, manufactures, installs, and services batch annealing equipment for the ferrous and non-ferrous, wire and sheet markets. RAD-CON is a leading supplier of annealing equipment and control technology to the cold-heading industry.
